Incredible Gesture: Bride Recites Vows to New Step-Son and His Mom
Every single weekend, an average of 44,230 weddings take place. All of these weddings are certainly life-changing for the bride and groom, but some may be much more of a change than others.
Getting married to someone that has kids from a previous marriage means that the husband or wife comes as a package deal. Bride Katie Musser experienced that firsthand and took her role as “new mom” on with grace the moment her new life began.
The 24-year-old bride shared a video on Facebook that showed her reading her co-parenting vows to her new son, Landon. Her new husband, Jeremy Wade, had previously been married before to Landon’s mother. As reported by Huffington Post, during the ceremony she thanked Wade’s ex-wife Casey and Casey’s husband for allowing her to come into the four-year-old’s life.
“First, I want to thank you for accepting me as your friend and allowing me to be a part of Landon’s life,” Musser said. “I promise to be an amazing mother to your son. I will guide, teach and love him every single day.”
After thanking the pair, Musser bent down to Landon’s level and started reading her vows to him as his new step-mom.
“I promise to stand by you, listen to you and love you every day. I promise to love daddy with all my heart,” Musser read to Landon. “I promise to be a best friend to mommy and your daddy Tyler. We will be one big family that I promise you will have for the rest of your life.”
The video of Musser reading her vows to both Landon’s parents and Landon has been viewed on Facebook over 575,000 times. Musser said in the post that she and Casey used to be enemies. However, after a little bit of time, they have become the closest of friends.
“Landon’s mom (Casey) and I hated each other,” Musser said on the post. “So many stories, rumors, and judgements, but what would you expect? That’s all we ever saw. That’s the norm. You don’t like the ‘other person.’”
Musser says that she woke up one day and realized how terrible it was that she wasn’t able to get along with Casey. She reached out to Casey after Landon’s first birthday and asked if they could work on strengthening their co-parenting relationship. Over the years, the two have become extremely close. Musser even gave Casey a bracelet that matched the ones her bridesmaids were wearing during the wedding.
The bracelet gesture really touched Casey, but the vows took her gratitude and love for her new friend over the top.
After the ceremony, Musser jokingly said that Casey “wanted to kill” her, as she wasn’t prepared for such a meaningful gesture. Casey told Musser, “Hey, a little warning would have been nice!”
All in all, it was a great way to kick off their new lives of co-parenting.
